Alpe d’Huez

The 21 hairpin switchbacks of the Alpe d’Huez provided the backdrop for some of the most dramatic showdowns in Tour de France history and have achieved true cult status. When Alpe d’Huez hosts the Tour de France the entire 13.2 km are flooded with fans celebrating the unique spectacle. One reason for this is that the Alpe d’Huez is relatively easy to access compared to the neighbouring passes such as the Col de la Croix de Fer, Col de Glandon or the Col du Galibier.

Many consider the climb from Bourg d’Oisans to the Alpe d’Huez ski resort the perfect way to challenge yourself or compete virtually against the pros. The 13.2 km have an average gradient of 8.1% with a 6.5 km section with 13%. An ideal place to push yourself to the limit. If you’re looking for an alternative route to the top you should consider the ascent via the Col de Sarenne which is only a short distance from Bourg d’Oisans and offers stunning views.
