An all-road bike that spans endurance and gravel? BMC present the new Roadmachine X ONE road bike

Performance meets long-distance comfort? With the Roadmachine X ONE, Swiss high-end bike manufacturer BMC claim to have created an extremely versatile road bike. The Tuned Compliance Concept and progressive geometry are supposed to deliver enough comfort for long rides, even when the going gets rough.

The demands made of the road bike segment are more diverse than ever. Ambitious riders don’t just want road bikes that offer top-end performance for a single area of use. The desire for all-road bikes that can offer a wide range of uses is increasing. In our big road bike group test (read the article here), we picked up on exactly this trend and ragged our test field over the most varied surfaces we could find. With the Roadmachine X ONE, BMC want to cater to riders who don’t waste time thinking about the terrain ahead. The bike is claimed to master the balancing act between riding performance and long-distance comfort, making everything from endurance to gravel possible.

The new BMC Roadmachine X ONE in detail

At BMC, innovation is in the details. To make the concept of a high-performance yet simultaneously comfortable road bike reality, BMC use their TCC technology. Tuned Compliance Concept Endurance is claimed to be the most effective tuning of frame compliance by BMC yet. Thanks to it, the Roadmachine X ONE should be able to take the fright out of rough roads and offer a significant level of long-distance comfort. The design of the main triangle is complemented by the flat seat stays and D-shaped seatpost, which should provide further compliance on changing road surfaces.

Just ride with no regard to what might come? The BMC Roadmachine X ONE wants to offer the right compliance all the way to light gravel use.

The fork is also tuned according to the TCC principle. It is designed to combine vertical compliance with high lateral stiffness, combining comfort and precise control. The frame and fork accept tires up to 33 mm wide and feature the integrated flat mount design for the brake we previously admired on the BMC Roadmachine 01 ONE 2021 in our big road bike group test. Other details, such as the chain catcher and cover for the front derailleur mount, have also been adopted for the Roadmachine X ONE. The two-piece cockpit uses a BMC stem and handlebars, though the brake lines aren’t routed invisibly through the handlebars like on the bike’s big brother. Instead, they make their way to the down tube and fork where they enter the frame. Nevertheless, the Roadmachine X ONE can impress with its otherwise clean and minimalist look. For perfect cockpit and riding ergonomics, BMC offer different options for stem length, stack and handlebar width.

BMC offer different options for stem length, stack and handlebar width so that every rider can find the right position on the Roadmachine X ONE. In addition, the top tube has mounts for a bag.
The chain catcher protects the frame should the chain fall off in rough terrain. If you want to convert the Roadmachine X ONE to use a front derailleur, you’ll find the mounts under the discreet cover.
The D-shaped seatpost plays a decisive role in the BMC compliance quartet of frame, fork, seat stays and seatpost.
No more room! The BMC Roadmachine X ONE is limited to 33 mm tires. BMC’s Tuned Compliance Concept Endurance is supposed to generate the requisite comfort instead.

The spec of the new BMC Roadmachine X ONE in detail

The BMC Roadmachine X series is offered in the carbon ONE, TWO and aluminium AL ONE builds. The top-end Roadmachine X ONE costs € 5,999 and comes with a wireless, gravel-specific XPLR 1×12 SRAM Force AXS groupset. You can find out everything about SRAM’s new drivetrain in our XPLR special here. BMC have chosen 32 mm wide WTB Expanse tires for endurance rides and light gravel use which can also be set up tubeless. For €4,699, you can get the BMC Roadmachine X TWO with a one-rung-down but still wireless SRAM Rival AXS groupset. It also has 12 gears and makes use of SRAM’s XPLR gravel components. Both models will be available from your BMC dealer from April 2022. The entry-level BMC Roadmachine X AL ONE aluminium model will follow in May for € 2,299. Here you have to make do without BMC’s Tuned Compliance Concept but you’ll be able to compensate with tires up to 45 mm wide. Those larger clearances are reserved for the aluminium model.
