FSA System launched – New rear hub electric-assist motor system for e-road, e-gravel and commuter bikes

FSA have just announced a new rear hub electric-assist motor called the FSA System which promises low weight, sleek integration and high performance. We have all the most important info for you right here!

FSA are no newcomers to the e-bike sector, as they already provide transmission components such as cranksets to some of the biggest motor manufacturers out there. However, this is the first time they have used their previous experience to create their own motor system.

The FSA System is a compact rear hub electric-assist motor weighing in at a claimed weight of just 4 kg. A sleek 20-cell, 250Wh battery integrates into the downtube of compatible e-road, e-gravel and commuter bikes. An additional 250Wh battery can be mounted via a bottle cage for an increased range. The system is operated with a top-tube mounted remote and charged with a port located above the bottom bracket.

The FSA System offers five levels of assistance, including an “eco” and a “boost” mode. Maximum power output peaks at 250W. The motor features a torque sensor and two speed sensors, which FSA claim will help the System easily adapt to different riding styles.

The motor is limited to 25 km/h, and the electric-assist hub will shut down once the speed limit has been reached. According to FSA, there is minimal friction from the drivetrain which should lead to a resistance-free pedaling experience once the motor shuts off.

FSA have also released a dedicated app that lets users record ride and usage statistics amongst other features. The app also features a diagnostics center, with a chatbot and option to communicate directly with an FSA service center.

The FSA System looks like an exciting new electric-assist motor option for a variety of uses. We look forward to testing it soon!
