It’s about to get artsy: the Swiss bicycle brand OPEN have released a limited collection of bikes and furniture classics in cooperation with iconic Bauhaus furniture brand TECTA. Read on to find out what’s behind the idea and how you can get your hands on one of these very special bikes.

Lovers of the Bauhaus style of the Weimar classics can look forward to a very special treat: a limited collection of three OPEN bikes and colour matching TECTA furniture.

This collection hasn’t come from nowhere, after all, there’s a long tradition of Bauhaus artists combining furniture and bikes. The development of their steel tubing furniture, including a type of chair that is still being produced today, was inspired by a curved bicycle handlebar. Marcel Breuer, one of the Bauhaus designers, had the idea during an extended countryside tour on his bike. The designs of the new TECTA x OPEN collection are based on those of Bauhaus artist Anni Albers, portraying an aesthetic that is both traditional and modern at the same time.

As with furniture, wheels are about evolution. I couldn’t let go of the idea […] of combining design, the Bauhaus school and cycling.” – Christian Drescher from TECTA

TECTA found the perfect ally to implement the project in Andy Kessler, one of the co-founders of the exclusive Swiss brand and a lover of architecture and furniture. The result of the collaboration is sure to turn heads and, in addition to four TECTA furniture classics, there are three OPEN frames featuring the limited colours. The WI.DE. (review here), MIN.D (review here) and the U.P. (review here) are available as part of the limited series.
