Strava have released a brand-new function. From now on, Summit members will be able to use tailored route recommendations and individual training routes that Strava created for them. If you want to know how the new tool works and what options it gives you, here’s the press release.

Three suggested route recommendations

Training in fresh air is key for physical and mental health. According to Strava’s team, they’re constantly working on unique tools to support the community in its active lifestyle. Now the American company presents a new function that is intended to optimise the training experience of each athlete. The route function was developed to give users tailored route recommendations on the fly, which can be filtered according to the location, sport type, distance, altitude and terrain conditions.

Details of the elevation profile

Members can upload their training sessions to Strava and share them with like-minded athletes. Allegedly, more than 3 billion activities have been recorded so far in all corners of the World; these are used by Strava to identify suitable running and cycling routes. Wherever you’re planning on training next, now you can use Strava’s new function to receive three different and tailored alternative training routes.

Selection of the route length

Strava calculate the duration of recommended training sessions based on the speed of your last activities. The new tool displays a detailed view with information about elevation gain and terrain conditions, as well as Strava’s own heat map, which is a graphic representation of the popularity of each section on the route.

For routes on unpaved terrain, Strava rely on OpenStreetMaps. Developers created a global network of paths, roads and trails using both in-house and public data sets from the Strava community. According to Strava, this includes, for example, information on the type of bike used on a particular section or route. Private activities and activities of athletes who have not made their training data available to the Strava Metro platform should remain unaffected.

… and details of the path surface

At the same time Strava give you helpful advice regarding the current COVID-19 situation: When walking or cycling, you should avoid crowds of people and keep a minimum distance of two metres.
