Design & Innovation Gold Award Winners, Zwift, have been revolutionising the world of turbo training with their fun and interactive virtual training platform. Zwift are now taking their athletes into the real world, offering an exciting new programme to select a top female rider from within its virtual ranks to race on the UCI World Tour circuit with a full contract on the Canyon // SRAM team.

Female athletes who use Zwift for their training will be offered the chance to tryout for a position on the team by competing in a winner takes all talent contest. Zwift and Canyon will be set a series of tasks, group rides and a structured training programme to identify those athletes who have what it takes to race on the UCI circuit. The potential candidates will then compete throughout 2016, reducing in numbers until a final selection of three riders remains. This is where the process will move from virtual to real world as the candidates compete for the opportunity to become a pro rider.

This exciting project provides an entirely new pathway for female riders looking to make it on to the pro circuit, and is an opportunity open to riders all over the globe. The development for female riders is far from easy, and the new Zwift programme will hopefully unearth some hidden talent. The programme will be called the “Canyon//SRAM Racing, Zwift Academy Project” will also be supported by team partners, Rapha, Wahoo Fitness, Zipp & Quarq.
