Hot or Not? Prologo DIMENSION R2 Saddle on Review
Lightweight, compact and built with performance in mind: the Prologo DIMENSION R2 aims to impress as a versatile road, gravel and XC saddle, tipping the scales at just 135 g with its distinctive V-shape design. But does the Italian saddle with race credentials really deliver on its promises? We put in the miles to find out.

Saddles are like espresso: some prefer them short and strong, others longer and silky smooth. In the end, the only real mistake is picking one you can’t enjoy. When it comes to road and gravel bikes, the saddle is arguably the most crucial contact point – and for good reason. No other component is as personal, as dependent on your pelvic shape, riding position and flexibility. That’s exactly what makes it so tricky to test objectively.
But we gave it a shot anyway – with a range of test riders, different riding positions and bib shorts, across tarmac and gravel. Because what feels like torture after 30 kilometres for one rider might be someone else’s comfort zone and power base. We’ll also explain why proper bike fitting plays a key role when it comes to finding the right saddle.
The DIMENSION R2 is the latest iteration and already the second revision of Prologo’s short-nose model. Lighter, more performance-focused and with a wider nose, it weighs just 135 g and sports a flat V-shape silhouette aimed at sporty riders who sit low and generate power from the hips. It’s designed to support a stretched, aerodynamic pedalling position – without causing pressure or numbness. That’s made possible by Prologo’s own PAS zone technology: a centrally positioned cut-out that’s meant to relieve pressure on sensitive nerves in the pelvic area.
But despite all the progress, there’s one aspect that raises eyebrows: Prologo only offer the R2 in two widths—143 mm and 153 mm. The predecessor, the Prologo Dimension, was also available as a women-specific EVA version with a 156 mm width, but those options are not yet offered for the R2.
So our review focuses solely on the 143 mm version of the new R2. Compared to other manufacturers like Specialized or Ergon, who offer saddles in three or even four widths, Prologo’s range still feels fairly limited. And when it comes to a component where every millimetre matters, that seems a bit narrow-minded. We wanted to find out just how versatile the saddle really is and whether the R2 truly suits everyone who’d like to run it.
Prologo DIMENSION R2 Saddle on Test
The Prologo DIMENSION R2 makes a strong first impression with its top-notch build quality. The surface feels premium, the stitching is clean – and not a single tester reported any chafing throughout all our rides. A great start! Plus, the carbon rails offer a touch of flex, which helps absorb vibrations and adds a bit more comfort out on the road and trail.
With its flat V-shape, the DIMENSION R2 is generally well suited to aggressive riding positions and is aimed at riders with good pelvic mobility. If you can rotate your hips forward and tend to sit towards the front, you’ll quickly find a stable position – but only if the saddle matches your sit bone width. For slimmer riders, 143 mm and especially 153 mm can feel a bit too wide.
On the upside, the saddle offers excellent freedom of movement, allowing for dynamic riding and making it easier to shift your position on the fly.
Who Should Take a Closer Look at the Prologo DIMENSION R2 Saddle?
The R2 is aimed at performance-minded riders who sit low, ride from the hips and make the most of their pelvic rotation. However, it’s less suitable for anyone needing a narrower fit: our tester found the R2 simply too wide – and since there’s only one alternative to the 143 mm version, it’s a case of either it works for you, or it doesn’t.
Out on rough gravel, we often found ourselves lacking support. The smooth surface, combined with slippery bib shorts, meant we literally lost contact with the saddle at times. If you’re after more grip and control, a model like the Prologo Scratch M5 Slide Control would be a better fit. And if you’re looking for something narrower, check out the Prologo Nago R4 – we’ve tested that too and were impressed by the blend of 3D-printed comfort and reliable grip.
Conclusions: Would we Buy the Prologo DIMENSION R2 Saddle?
As with any saddle, impressions are highly subjective – and the DIMENSION R2 isn’t exactly everyone’s cup of tea. But if your sit bones match the available widths, you ride in a sporty, forward-leaning position and mostly stick to asphalt, the R2 delivers a super-lightweight saddle with clear race DNA and excellent build quality. If you know exactly what you’re looking for, this could be a great fit. Everyone else should definitely try before they buy.
