POC Ventral Air introduced – The award-winning helmet

When we visited the POC headquarters in Stockholm a while ago, we caught a rare glimpse of some unreleased helmet designs. Now it’s official: the Swedish brand is launching their latest helmet at the Tour Down Under. Here’s the official press release on the hotly anticipated Ventral Air.

With a focus on extreme levels of ventilation, very low weight and high levels of protection, we are proud to introduce the latest in our line of performance road bike helmets; the Ventral Air. The helmet will be raced for the first time by riders from EF Education First at the Tour Down Under, the perfect proving ground for helmets which are designed to keep riders cool, safe and performing.

Jonas Sjögren, POC CEO said – “We have developed a number of advanced performance helmets in recent years. The award-winning Octal, with its class-leading weight and ventilation, was the first we released to meet the challenges of the uncompromising world of the pro peloton, followed quickly by the Cerebel and more recently, the Ventral SPIN.
The objective is always to use science, mixed with our innovation and Swedish heritage, to optimize a riders safety and performance. The Ventral Air is the latest result of our approach; It is an incredibly safe and lightweight high-performance helmet which has a supreme cooling effect over the whole head, perfect for long mountain climbs, riders who prefer a light and highly ventilated helmet or those who regularly ride in hot climates.”

Jonathan Vaughters, CEO, EF Education First, added – “Success in professional racing is built on performance and the Ventral Air, which has been built on the evidence of our tried and tested Octal and Ventral, is another performance leap forward for the riders, especially for the very hot days or mountain stages, as it combines the best in weight, ventilation and safety.

The ability to understand how to maximize the team and rider’s potential is essential and safety and innovation are a major factor in this equation. It’s here where POC’s ability to create products with incredible quality and relevance, especially for the high-performance environment, has always stood out.”

The POC Ventral Air

The unique design of the Ventral Air, which recently won the prestigious Design and Innovation Award, has been influenced by the Octal and Ventral. The result is a structurally optimized helmet which features precise ventilation ports and internal channels to control the air intake and release at both high and low speeds, which enhances ventilation as well as the rider’s ability to reduce drag.

The Ventral Air is exceptionally lightweight yet features a fully wrapped uni-body shell construction for extra security and an EPS liner which is optimized for the perfect balance between weight and safety. The helmet also features POC’s patent pending silicone pad system, SPIN (Shearing Pad INside).
A lightweight adjustment system and ergonomic precision strap design offer a superb and flexible fit and it also features a new eye garage for practical storage of bike glasses.
