Michelin have a long legacy as tire manufacturers, not just for road bikes, but especially in motorsport. The Power Cup TLR Competition Line is designed to tap into that racing pedigree. Developed using technology from MotoGP, it promises the perfect balance of speed, grip and comfort. It’s also the only tire in the test field with a completely slick tread, which makes it stand out both visually and technically. Once mounted, the Power Cup TLR looks round, firm, and racy. And with the subtle yellow-and-blue Michelin logo on the sidewall, it makes a stylish impression too.
Leading the Pack: Slick – The Michelin Power Cup TLR Competition Line in Our 2025 Road Tire Test
The Power Cup TLR Competition Line proved to be a well accomplished performance tire during our tests. It accelerates effortlessly and delivers an incredibly smooth, efficient ride. Lab results back that up: with a rolling resistance of just 12.2 watts, it ranks among the very best, on par with the Challenge Criterium RS, Pirelli P ZERO TLR RS, Continental Aero 111 and Schwalbe Pro One. Only the Continental GP 5000 TT TR and GP 5000 S TR manage to edge ahead slightly. Thanks to its slick tread and snug fit on the rim, the Michelin also scores points for aerodynamics, offering a streamlined look. Despite its clear focus on speed, the Power Cup doesn’t fall short on puncture protection either. Thanks to excellent resistance to pinch flats and decent puncture protection through the tread, it places squarely in the midfield of the test.
Grip is another one of the tire’s strong points. It sticks firmly to the tarmac and stays composed even under hard braking, thereby inspiring confidence in every riding scenario. Its cornering performance is particularly impressive: the Power Cup transitions smoothly, effortlessly and with pinpoint precision, offering predictable handling even through tight bends. For a race tire, it’s surprisingly compliant too. It noticeably smooths out vibrations, road buzz and minor potholes, offering a ride that feels both comfortable and fast. It even remains composed and confident on fine gravel or cobblestones. Fitting the tire is another highlight as it slips onto the rim with ease – no tyre levers needed – yet still fits snugly and seals instantly, even without sealant.
