The Continental Terra Speed has one clear aim: speed. Until now, it has been the German brand’s most efficient gravel tire, but with the launch of the new Terra Competition, Continental now claim to have an even faster option. It also faces competition from MTB tires like the Dubnital, which are increasingly finding their way onto gravel bikes too. So is the Terra Speed losing its place as the go-to specialist tires for the fastest races, or is this still one of the best gravel tires in 2026?
The Terra Speed is designed for speed, with a fine tread pattern and low-profile knobs. Continental’s aim is to combine agile handling and high speed to make a tire that really comes into its own on gravel tracks and firm surfaces like tarmac. But is that enough for a gravel tire that also has to hold its own once you turn off the beaten track? Or does its off-road capability end up falling by the wayside?
Speed Legend with Bite: Continental Terra Speed in the 2026 Gravel Tire Group Test
How does this gravel stalwart fare against the competition? The Terra Speed did well in our previous gravel tire group test, and it continues to post strong results in 2026. At 530 g, the tire comes in almost 40 g below the average test weight, and even among the fastest gravel tires, it is still more than 20 g lighter than the mean average. That said, Continental’s own Terra Competition is lighter still by almost 40 g. In fact, all of Continental’s tires in this test field are notably lightweight. Rolling resistance paints a similar picture: at just 12.5 W, the Terra Speed is significantly faster than the 15 W average, and almost 1 W below the mean of the fastest gravel tires. That is an outstanding result, especially considering that only the Continental Terra Competition at 11.1 W and the Schwalbe G-One RS Pro at 10.6 W roll meaningfully faster.
When it comes to grip, the Terra Speed is surprisingly impressive, despite its fairly small knobs. Although the tread only features low-profile knobs, this race-focused tire delivers above average traction, especially on dry and loose surfaces, and in dusty conditions. That is mainly down to the supple casing and the grippy rubber compound. As a result, the tire remains very rideable even in muddy terrain, performing noticeably better than the Schwalbe G-One RS Pro or Goodyear’s two Connector models, the Inter and Speed. The handling matches that capable character perfectly: with its rounded profile and consistent tread pattern, the Terra Speed feels agile and predictable. That is particularly welcome because the level of grip stays consistent regardless of lean angle, which makes for plenty of fun and a reassuringly secure ride feel. Compliance is also very good. It is not quite as smooth as the softer Continental Terra Competition or the wider Dubnital, but the Terra Speed still performs better than average here too. Overall, it comes very close to its rival, the Schwalbe G-One R Pro, which offers slightly more grip at a similar level of efficiency and with equally good handling, though with more squirm during cornering thanks to its more aggressive tread.
That leaves puncture protection, which sits exactly on the average overall. Look a little closer, though, and the tire’s speed-focused design and supple casing do cost it a few points: pinch flat protection is below average, while puncture protection is very good, with only three tires offering better resistance to penetration. Used as intended on fast surfaces, that is unlikely to cause any issues. Even so, it shows that a tire tuned for speed inevitably comes with a few compromises.

Conclusion on the Continental Terra Speed
Continental have a well-known and popular tire in the Terra Speed, and despite its age, it still ranks among the very best in this test. Light, fast and grippy, it brings everything you want from a gravel tire. What stands out most, though, is its agile handling and consistent level of grip. You do have to accept some compromises in pinch flat protection, but if you use the tire as intended for racing or fast rides, that is unlikely to be an issue. That keeps the Terra Speed right at the sharp end when it comes to speed and agility.
