“Road cycling is really fun,” said Andreas Wildgrube, Cannondale’s e-bike product manager. “We wanted to build a bike that would make it easy for anyone who has looked at road cycling and thought, ‘I wish I could do that,’ to get out and experience the fun for themselves. We wanted to open road cycling up to everyone.”

Crafted with Cannondale’s renowned C1 Alloy construction, the Synapse NEO is designed in the likeness of its award-winning namesake, Synapse. The frameset underwent extensive FEA (Finite Element Analysis) work to ensure it delivers the same bump-smoothing ride of its non-electric counterpart, with the stiffness and strength needed for the additional power and speed of electric assist. The Synapse NEO also features frame geometry that deftly balances the comfort of a more upright rider position, with the sporty, engaging ride-feel of a true road bike. With its endurance rider position, road-smoothing 700 x 32c tires and SAVE Micro-Suspension, the Synapse NEO keeps riders comfortably in control on even the longest, roughest days.

Bosch’s Generation 3 Active Line Plus drive unit provides the boost for the all-new Synapse NEO. A mid-motor design ideal for road bikes, the Active Line Plus drive unit is lightweight and offers smooth, silent power delivery, as well as drag-free pedaling beyond the assist cut-out threshold. The drive unit is also paired with a full 500Wh integrated PowerTube battery with over 200 km of potential range, opening the door to seriously long rides. When combined, the Synapse NEO’s integrated battery, custom motor mounting node and color-matched motor cover give it a beautifully holistic look.

The Synapse NEO is the only Bosch-equipped road bike compatible with a double chainring crank, enabling riders to always find the right gear to make the most of their power. Additionally, Cannondale’s Asymmetric Integration (Ai) Offset Drivetrain, allows the Synapse NEO to have short chainstays for nimble handling and tire clearance for up to a 700 x 35mm tire, offering riders maximum comfort.

Other thoughtful details such as a removable fender bridge, subtle rack and fender mounts, and pre-wired cables for front and rear lights add to the Synapse NEO’s versatility and appeal. An SE model will also be available, specially equipped with high-volume 650 x 47c tires and wide-range gearing for those adventurous souls looking to explore beyond the paved and predictable. With its comfortable, composed feel, smooth power delivery and massive gear range, the Synapse NEO makes the joys of road-riding available to all.
