NEMO Equipment have been among the most popular names in technical outdoor gear for over two decades. With the Dragonfly Bikepack OSMO 2P, the US brand enters the race with a dedicated 3-season tent designed specifically around the needs of bikepackers. A range of bike-specific features aims to make life in camp more comfortable.
Compared to the rest of the test field, it quickly becomes clear that NEMO’s development team focused on more than just shaving grams. Instead, they packed the Dragonfly with a long list of thoughtful details. Whether these features genuinely improve daily life in camp or simply add unnecessary complexity is exactly what our real-world review set out to discover.

The NEMO Dragonfly Bikepack OSMO 2P on Review – From Saddle to Shelter
Materials and Setup
The tent uses NEMO’s proprietary PFAS-free OSMO fabric made from recycled ripstop nylon. The material feels premium and inspires confidence with its robust construction. The pole system is designed as a connected single-unit structure: thanks to the taut elastic cord, the poles practically snap themselves into the central aluminium hub during setup. Combined with the colour-coded end fittings, this makes pitching the inner tent intuitive and quick.
There are drawbacks when it comes to connecting the flysheet: metal hooks have to be threaded into tight attachment points under tension, which turns into a fiddly test of strength. Compared directly to other tents in this review, this system feels less flexible and user-friendly, especially when things need to move fast or the weather doesn’t cooperate.
The plastic corner connectors on the inner tent are also a concern: during testing they repeatedly detached from the tent fabric unnoticed and could easily get lost in long grass. Without these components, the poles can no longer be secured properly. It’s also a shame that, due to its design, the inner tent always has to be pitched first, making a weatherproof setup in the rain impossible without the optionally available footprint. It also feels somewhat outdated that the additional storm guylines have to be attached by hand during the first setup. The significantly cheaper SIMOND MT900 offers the more convenient solution here with pre-installed guylines.
Transport & Mounting
The waterproof stuff sack is designed as a double-ended dry bag and reinforced at key wear points. The mounting system is one of the NEMO Dragonfly Bikepack OSMO’s highlights: two straps secure the bag firmly to the handlebar, while a long hook-and-loop strap stabilises it around the stem or head tube. Even on rough terrain, the setup holds securely in place. Variable mounting loops on the upper side allow the position to be adapted to different cockpit layouts. On the trail, the bag stays completely stable and effectively prevents any rubbing against the handlebar.
The tent also earns points when packing up in the morning. Instead of requiring precise folding, the entire tent can simply be stuffed into the robust dry bag – quick, uncomplicated and refreshingly stress-free. With a packed width of 40 cm and a pole length of 37 cm, it sits firmly within the compact range expected from this category. Only riders using very narrow drop bars below 40 cm should check clearance around their shift levers beforehand.
On the bike, the total weight of 1.69 kg contributes to composed, stable handling on gravel and rough surfaces. At the same time, the front end remains noticeably more agile than with the Hilleberg Unna, which is around 500 g heavier and places more load on the cockpit.
Space & Storage
With a floor size of 225 x 128/110 cm, the inner tent offers the most generous amount of space among the dedicated bikepacking tents in this review. The pre-bent pole sections create steep sidewalls, resulting in a flatter roof and comfortable headroom when sitting upright. An atmospheric highlight are the yellow “Nightlight” pockets on the tent ceiling: they diffuse the harsh beam of a head torch, creating a pleasantly soft glow inside. The structure convinces elsewhere too: the large overhead net easily accommodates two helmets, while side pockets keep smaller items organised. The real everyday value, however, comes from the standard-fitted waterproof vestibule tub. Simply hung inside the vestibule, it reliably protects panniers or shoes from mud and ground moisture – a clear win over the tents from MSR, Hilleberg, VAUDE and Big Agnes, none of which ship with a vestibule floor.
Weather Protection and Ventilation
As a dedicated 3-season tent, the Dragonfly Bikepack OSMO uses a smart ventilation concept. The inner tent combines wind protection and airflow in an asymmetrical layout: at the head end, a raised nylon panel keeps out cold drafts, while a generous mesh section at the foot end ensures continuous fresh air. The integrated, pop-up roof vent further supports moisture management and reliably helps expel humid air from the tent.
Even in bad weather, the Dragonfly remains composed. The exceptionally high 25 cm bathtub floor effectively protects the interior from splash water and rising ground moisture – practical when the rain isn’t just coming from above, but the ground has long since joined in too.
Who Should Take a Closer Look at the NEMO Dragonfly Bikepack OSMO 2P?
The Dragonfly is aimed at riders who value a well-rounded overall package. Reliable bike mounting solutions, generous storage options and the smart separation of clean and dirty gear make it one of the most practical tents in this review. Anyone who appreciates organisation and wants camp life to feel effortless after a long day in the saddle will quickly warm to the concept.
It’s less suited to purists seeking maximum simplicity during setup or riders using extremely narrow drop bars below 40 cm. Those are the few areas where this otherwise highly refined system reveals some compromises.
Conclusion
The NEMO Dragonfly Bikepack OSMO 2P is not a tent for minimalists, but for bikepackers who value comfort, organisation and thoughtful details. The secure handlebar mounting, easy packing process, numerous storage solutions and waterproof vestibule floor make daily camp life noticeably more pleasant. While the setup occasionally requires a little patience, the Dragonfly rewards riders on tour with excellent real-world usability and arguably the most sophisticated living concept in the entire test field.
